School of Computing - ComputeTY

ComputeTY January 2006 Interviews

Aaron Kennedy - St. Aidan's: "The week was good. I learned a lot in computers compared to the start. We learned about HTML tags for creating web pages. I had a bit of experience from before with FrontPage but nothing like this. It looks pretty good here in DCU. I'd definitely think about doing a computer course here. It was good mixing with other schools. We made a lot of friends. I did my site on music. Each window has a link to the bands homepage. I have Led Zeppelin, The Doors, and Sex Pistols. And my friends have a band - Dahlia - so I thought I'd put them in too."

Caroline Carney - Mercy College, Coolock: "I learned a lot of new things about the internet and computers. My site is on Michael Schumacher. I'm a Formula I fan. The site was difficult at the start but then I got the hang of it. I was here in DCU in December at an Access Achievement Awards ceremony. I got an award in academics. I thought the university was fantastic. The size, the facilities. Really impressive. The different sections. Compared to a normal school it's breathtaking. I'd like to see what the other universities are like but I'd definitely consider coming back here. At the moment I'm interested in doing Secondary School teaching."

Lee Sheridan - St. Aidan's: "My site is on Manchester United. It went grand. It was easy to get information and pictures on it. It was a good laugh working with everyone else. The university is more free than it is in school. You have more options available to you. You can go around as you want. If I was going to go to any university I'd go to this one. Shops, restaurant, pool tables, it's deadly. We were doing a swimming course at the start of the year in DCU so I was here before. I was thinking of doing veterinary after school. I do boxing with St. Patricks. I won a Dublin title and I came second in Leinster. I train three nights a week. It's tough but it's great because you get something out of it. If I had a choice I'd be a professional boxer."
