10:30am - 12pm Opening Address & Welcome:
Your next encounter with DCU will be in the Helix, where you will meet the President of the University, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, and be provided with some important tips on how to stay safe during your time at the University. Here you will meet your peers for the first time.

1pm - 3pm Meeting with the Students’ Union & Campus Tour:
This session takes place in the Hub Student Centre. You will meet members of the Students’ Union and learn about their role in the University. Representatives from Clubs and Societies will talk to you about getting involved in extra-curricular activities and provide you with the Clubs & Societies Handbook, which is full of practical information, including how to join up! Directly after this meeting, you’ll be given the ‘insiders’ tour of DCU!

1pm - 3pm Maths Learning Centre:
This session provides an introduction to the Maths Learning Centre at DCU for all students doing a maths module as part of their programme. The Centre provides free maths tuition to students throughout the year, so you are well advised to find out all about it!

Thursday 25 September 2008

12pm - 2pm Expectations of University Life:
This session, which takes place in the Larkin Theatre T101, will focus on the transition from second to third level education. Information will be provided about the various support services in the University, both academic and non-academic, and about your ‘future’ as a student in DCU! You will receive your ‘Student Handbook – the A-Z Guide to Life at DCU - and a free DCU Student Diary & Planner.

1:20pm - 2:30pm

Meeting with Academic Staff and Meeting with Personal Tutors:

SCHEDULE CHANGE!!!

At this session, which now takes place in the

Larkin Theatre T1.01 at

the earlier time of

1:20pm

(immediately after the 'Expectations of University Life' session), you will meet academic staff (lecturers and tutors) of your programme. They will provide you with an overview of your programme, provide details about the timetable, explain the assessment system and assign you to your Year Head and Personal Tutor.

Typically, students meet their Personal Tutor (a member of academic staff from your Faculty) at this session, who would be available for consultation on academic and related matters throughout the year. However, you will be invited to meet your personal tutor at a later date - sometime early in Semester 1, so keep an eye out for that email - it is important.

Original schedule: QG21 in the Business School Building 2-4pm
