Programme Introduction

Chair of Programme:

A step ahead with computing - The unique MBI in Europe
Engineering Business Information Systems

DCU's European M.Sc. in Business Informatics has a strong international focus, culminating in students spending the summer months undertaking a research project in a European country. No other MBI programme is like ours - global studies from a European viewpoint.

The European M.Sc. in Business Informatics programme at Dublin City University was established to help young, ambitious computing professionals and graduates to develop practical skills along with a solid foundation in management and business theory.

Our program was established in 2006 to respond to the increasing and evolving demand for combining informatics with business subjects. We applied the same concepts we teach and research - innovative approaches combined with an excellent methodological foundation. We have created a unique, multicultural program with practical orientation, a short but intensive period of study, world-class studying conditions combined with academic excellence. These factors and our focus on developing the leadership skills of high-potential individuals make the European MBI an outstanding programme in business informatics.

The European M.Sc. in Business Informatics (Full-time and Part-time) equips graduates and professionals in Computing and Software Engineering (or comparable disciplines) with an in-depth understanding of the business applications of information and communications technology (ICT), and how it interacts with business processes, both within an Irish and a European context.

The European M.Sc. in Business Informatics is financially supported by the HEA and EU under its Advanced Technical Skills Programme. All EU students pay only a small proportion of the annual fee, amounting to approximately €1,600 (based on 2007/2008 fees).

"Graduates in Business Informatics can work in government, healthcare, business, industry, consulting and private institutions. There are many opportunities. And it is up to you which direction you choose" says (Programme Chair European M.Sc. in Business Informatics)

While including subjects of Information System Management, Business Informatics has a greater emphasis on technical and modelling issues, including both Information System Engieering and a structured approach to modelling and analysis of business processes and problems. Together with the international focus of the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics, this makes graduates particularly sought-after in an increasingly global marketplace.

Over the course of the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics, students will learn how to frame a successful Information System Strategy for business, and how to analyse and model Business Processes, Supply Chain Networks and Information System Architectures. They also acquire an appreciation of the main cultural issues impacting on business operations in European markets. Students will spend at least three months following completion of their taught modules working on a major practical project abroad, thus exposing them first-hand to international business information systems theory and practice.
