Remote Learning Backup for Part-Time Students
From September 2007 onwards, part-time students on the European MSc in Business Informatics can benefit from our remote learning backup facility. This facilitates students, who are unable to attend an on-campus lecture, to study the material offline.
The remote learning backup was designed to enable professionals working in industry to participate in the unique MBI programme, by learning and communicating with lecturers and fellow students online. However, it is not a full distance learning programme; but we provide a flexible system of educational delivery and support, specifically tailored to help professionals working in industry to participate in this programme. This facility for the European MSc in Business Informatics is the first of its kind in Ireland. It is particularly designed for software engineers and computing professionals working in industry, who want to combine a business and technology education.
Online teaching material and online communication backs up the classroom experience should students be unable to attend a lecture on campus. The remote learning backup is available in a number of forms. Students are registered on the DCU’s online learning environment “Moodle”.

Moodle facilitates students and enables them to communicate with their lecturers and with other students in the programme through online group discussion forums. Lecturers may recommend appropriate online and offline learning resources. Lecturers may also suggest discussion items or online exercises. Except when privacy is an issue, all communication between students and online tutors takes place in the online group discussion forums. Students may also make use of an online chat facility. Besides, DCU’s Library offers many online resources.
Both the part-time and full-time programme for the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics is financially supported by the HEA and EU under its Advanced Technical Skills Programme. EU students pay only a small proportion of the annual fee, amounting to approximately €1,600 (based on 2007/2008 fees).
For Details on the part-time programme please see the Programme Schedule
Note: Part-time students undertaking this programme are expected to occasionally meet with their lecturers and should be aware that they must meet the same assignment deadlines as students studying in the traditional part-time programme. Students are also required to sit examinations on campus at Dublin City University.
