DCU School of Computing increases Student Numbers
17th September '99

DCU's School of Computing has increased the intake onto its B.Sc. in Computer Applications to 300 students for October 1999 and the intake on the Graduate Diploma in Information technology to 125 students. Commenting on the increases, Prof Alan Smeaton, Head of the School said:  "The increased numbers in the B.Sc. in Computer Applications are funded through the Skills Shortage programme and these students, as they reach the second year of their programme, will be the first students to go through our restructured CA degree programme.  This will allow them to have a choice of one of 3 areas within computing into which they can direct their careers, namely Computer Science, Software Engineering or Information Systems. By being able to defer this career-determining choice until the end of their first year of University, we will be able to offer our students a new degree of flexibility in planning how our courses can suit their needs and strengths." More details of the re-design of this degree programme will be announced later.
