DCU Students pick up
ecommerce award
June 1999
A Java Project by two Dublin City University students has won
the Anderson Consulting Award. for eCommerce. Sean Kinsella
and Aidan Haran, who have just completed their final year of
a B.Sc. in Computer Applications, took the award for JTrade,
a project in which they set out to create a secure environment
for financial trading over the internet. With the JTrade product,
the server acts as a broker between clients, advertising deals
and communicating the bidding process until a deal is resolved.
Each completed deal has an associated ticket to indicate the
particulars of the deal. Kinsella and Haran say the system can
eventually be used as a framework to facilitate all types of
securities, including foreign exchange and precious metals.
JTrade uses J/Crypto libaries from Baltimore Technologies to
authenticate the origin and ensure the confidentiality and non-repudiation
of deals.
