POSTGRADUATE COMPUTING PROGRAMMES
We have seven taught postgraduate programmes here in the School of Computing in DCU:
Graduate Diploma in Information Technology (GDF)

Both full-time and part-time, this popular skills conversion programme is open to
applications from graduates of non-tech disciplines (Graduate Entry) and to non-graduates
who have relevant industry experience (Professional Entry).
This programme is a practical and in-depth skills conversion course aimed at those who
wish to pursue a career in IT or to up-skill and further current careers by providing
excellent grounding in IT and its related discipline.

M.Sc. in Bioinformatics (MBIO)
One Year Full-time PAC Code: DC702
This Masters programme features a common core curriculum with two distinct streams:
Computing and Life Sciences. This programme has been developed in close collaboration with
industry bodies in order to maximise its relevance to industry needs and is designed to
produce graduates with the inter-disciplinary skills required to prosper in the expanding
bioinformatics and biotechnology sectors.
M.Sc. in Computational Science and Complex Systems (MCSCS)
One Year Full-time PAC Code: DC810
New in 2009, this Masters programme provides theoretical and practical training in key
Cross-Disciplinary Computational and Modelling skills. It equips graduates with core
computational competencies, to enable them to work effectively in academic research or in
industry. These computational competencies include scientific computing, modelling and
applied statistics. Reflecting the multi-disciplinary reality of modern research and
development, it is a feature of the programme that students may come from a broad range of
primary disciplines (computing, physical and other sciences, mathematics, economics and
engineering etc.).
M.Sc. in Electronic Commerce (MECT)
One Year Full-time PAC Code: DC821
Featuring a common core curriculum with two distinct streams: a business stream and a
technical stream, this programme is designed to produce the kind of e-business technologists,
managers and entrepreneurs in greatest demand by the information economy. It does this by
providing students on each stream with a powerful combination of technological and business
skills of relevance to electronic commerce applications. A strong collaborative ethos across
the business and technical tracks is fostered through the extensive shared curriculum,
interactive teaching modes and overall entrepreneurial orientation. As a result, the graduates
of this programme are equipped with multi-faceted skills required to operate successfully in
the exciting and dynamic industry of e-commerce.
European M.Sc. in Business Informatics (EMBIN)

NOTE: There is no February intake for 2009/2010
This is a one year full-time/two year part-time Masters programme that equips graduates
or professionals of computing and software engineering with a deep understanding of business
information systems. The programme has a strong international focus. Students learn how to
analyse business requirements, develop information system architectures and design business
processes and IT solutions. The international focus makes graduates particularly sought-after
in the global information and communications technology fields.

M.Sc. in Security and Forensic Computing (MSSF)
One Year Full-time/Two Years Part-time PAC Code: DC823 (full-time)
DC822 (part-time)
This is a one year full-time Masters programme which teaches the principles underlying
computer security and the practical investigation of computer crime. This course prepares
graduates with a fundamental approach to Computer Security and Forensic Computing including
legal, technical, information management and ethical issues, while also exploring effective
methods which may be used to assist in the prevention of technologically related crime. DCU
is the only university in Ireland to offer an open taught M.Sc. programme in this expanding
and crucial area.

M.Sc. in Software Engineering (MSE)
One Year Full-time/Two Years Part-time PAC Code: DC824 (full-time)
DC811 (part-time)
Now also available part-time, this popular programme equips software engineering
professionals with the cutting-edge skills to produce high quality software and systems
that deliver value to business and the economy. Course participants will be exposed to the
latest ideas and best practices in industry and will be fully equipped to advance their
career in a fast-changing industry.
