WHY STUDY A POSTGRAD IN COMPUTING?

Secure and advance your career:

Unless you've been living in a nuclear bunker lately, you can't have helped notice that there's been a slight change to our economy. People with more specialised skills are more attractive to organisations and more likely to climb the career ladder faster than those with a basic degree.

Money, money, money...

You're in luck: computing graduates are in great demand in the Irish Information Economy and on the global market too! The more specialised your skill, the smaller a pool there is and the more exclusive you become.

But don't just take our word for it... this page is a mixture of press releases and news reports showing you the job opportunities and growth in the demand for computing in Ireland and globally even despite the recession!

Top IT Jobs Board, ComputerJobs.ie, also talk about positive IT trends for employees - see their article here: http://www.computerjobs.ie/IT_Jobs/article_253.asp

In addition, we conducted a short survey of our graduates (73% from 2002-2007) to see how they are getting on.

According to the 2008 School of Computing Alumni survey:

  • 93% of graduates were earning more than €30,000
    • Of that 20% are earning €75,000+
  • When asked about their salary project in five years time:
    • 83% predicted they would be earning more than €50,000+
      • 44% predicted they would be on €75K+
      • 19% predicted they would be on €100K+
  • 84% are content with their career progression
    • 33% are VERY content with their career progression
  • 69% said it took less than 3 months for them to find a career-related job
    • 41% said it took less than a month
  • 39% are in a senior role (e.g. managerial/director/founder/head of sector/chairperson/CIO/CTO/CEO)
