embin logoDCU's European M.Sc. in Business Informatics has a strong international focus, culminating in the option of spending the summer months undertaking a research project in a European country. No other MBI programme is like ours - Informatics and Business from a European viewpoint.

The European M.Sc. in Business Informatics programme at Dublin City University was established in 2006 to help ambitious computing professionals and graduates in Software Engineering to develop practical skills along with a solid foundation in management and business.

Programme Overview
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) has become increasingly important for organisations. It underlines many social and economic innovations and activities that offer companies new strategic options. However, to benefit from the technical innovations, organisations need to understand both technological and business aspects. The M.Sc. in Business Informatics centres on the combination of technology and business. It aims to help organisations identify, apply and develop the most beneficial ICT solutions, thus improving an organisation’s performance. This programme bridges the hard and soft sides of ICT by utilising software engineering and computer science with information systems and business. To meet these challenges, graduates must be able to solve business problems and analyse underlying organisational processes, as well as understanding their wider social, economic and cultural implications. This is the core field of interest in the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics. Students on this course will learn how to analyse business requirements, to develop information system architectures and to design business processes and IT solutions.

The European M.Sc. in Business Informatics (Full-time and Part-time) equips graduates and professionals in Computing and Software Engineering (or comparable disciplines) with an in-depth understanding of the business applications of information and communications technology (ICT), and how it interacts with business processes, both within an Irish and a European context.

Financially supported
This programmed is financially supported by the Higher Education Authority. This means
that most European Union student pay only a small portion of the annual fee. For more
information see http://www.dcu.ie/finance/fees/

Career Opportunities
The international focus of the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics will make graduates
particularly sought-after in the global ICT marketplace. Graduates can expect to be recruited to
a wide range of positions such as Information Systems Consultant, Business Analyst, Systems
Analyst or IT Manager. Employing companies will include those heavily dependent on ICT
and companies with international operations, such as financial services firms, healthcare
organisations, logistics companies, public service enterprises and multinational corporations.
Eg. Accenture, PricewaterhouseCoopers, SAP, Oracle.

"Graduates in Business Informatics can work in government, healthcare, business, industry, consulting and private institutions. There are many opportunities. And it is up to you which direction you choose" says Dr. Markus Helfert (Programme Chair European M.Sc. in Business Informatics)

While including subjects of Information System Management, Business Informatics has a greater emphasis on Information System modelling issues, including both Information System Engieering and a structured approach to modelling and analysis of business processes and problems. Together with the international focus of the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics, this makes graduates particularly sought-after in an increasingly global marketplace.

Four Months in a European Environment: Networking for the Future
The European M.Sc. in Business Informatics is designed to be completed in one calendar
year of full-time study or two years part-time. In the final four months of the programme,
students will have an opportunity to work on a research project and gain work experience
in Ireland or a European country, supervised at one of our partner universities. Projects may
be sponsored by external organisations or involve some of the student’s or staff’s own ideas.
Practicum abroad will be supervised in English. For more information on participating
partners, see www.computing.dcu.ie/europeanmbi

Over the course of the European M.Sc. in Business Informatics, students will learn how to frame a successful Information System Strategy for business, and how to analyse and model Business Processes, Supply Chain Networks and Information System Architectures. They also acquire an appreciation of the main cultural issues impacting on business operations in European markets.
