B.Sc. in Computer Applications (DC121)

An innovative programme with a common entry and common content in first year and two stream options in subsequent years. The course structure allows students to sample a variety and diversity of disciplines from within the University during their first year. Towards the end of first year, students select a specific stream from within computing, in which they specialise for the remainder of their degree, namely:

Information Systems (business-oriented) or
Software Engineering (technical-oriented)

A common first year curriculum allows students to familiarise themselves with both options kinds of computing degree before they choose their specialism.

Main Features:

The programme is of four years duration.
 
A six-month industrial placement (INTRA) is included in third year, as before.
 
The core computing modules are now complimented in first year by a selection of non-computing options drawn from business, science and the humanities.
 
CAO points requirement for the programme is 300 points.
 
Special subject entry requirements are minimum HD3 or OC3 in Mathematics.
 
Purpose-built state-of-the-art computing facility on a compact campus in Dublin City.
 
Strong tutoring support and peer mentoring systems in place to smooth students' transition to college life.
