Atid Shamaie

I’m a research engineer at GestureTek R&D working on new interactive systems using computer vision.

I’m fascinated by the way the central nervous system coordinates body movements. My research benefits from both neuroscience and conceptual bases of these coordinations. My main focus is tracking and recognition of hand and body movements for human-computer interaction.

I have invented the multi-touch Illuminate surface computing which is being used in many products including Illuminate Table and some custom projects.

I earned my BSc in computer engineering from the University of Esfahan, and MSc from the University of Tehran. I joined the Centre for Digital Video Processing at Dublin City University in 2000 where I did my PhD in human-computer interaction.
