Image features

• Any kind of manual indexing is expensive

• Raw images have 2 features which give leverage for content-matching

  • colour
  • texture

• Each can be computed over an entire image and over some sub-part, and this can be used to generate a “signature”

• Forms the basis for all content-based image retrieval systems, eg IBM’s QBIC
