There is no one book that is useful for the course, rather I recommend a number of books which would make for very useful reading. I will identify some relevant sections of these books. All links are to the most recent editions on www.amazon.com. You should also find these in the library:
- Modern Information Retrieval (Baeza-Yates & Ribeiro-Neto)
- Understanding Search Engines : Mathematical Modeling and Text Retrieval (Berry & Browne)
- I will recommend other readings during lectures and provide links here.

- Continuous Assessment Results are available.
- The Continuous Assessment is due on the last day of semester (Friday 29th April 2005). I have posted details and will discuss further in class. I am posting non-complete copies of chapter 4 and 5 so that you will have some advance knowledge of the topics covered, which may help in your selection of the topic for your CA.
- In a change from last year's course the project is now worth 30% with the exam worth 70%.
- I will not be in DCU for lectures on Week 3... I will speak to you in lectures about this.
