Journal Special Issue on

Non-functional System Properties in Domain Specific Modeling Languages

Computer Science - Research and Development (CSRD)

Context:

The importance of NFPs is generally acknowledged by the SE community. NFPs of software systems are at least important as their functionality, and must be considered during the design. For software systems, engineering modeling and modeling languages (general purpose and domain specific) are becoming a common-place. Nevertheless, the study of engineering modeling languages, their integration, and particularly integration in software engineering processes (SEP) still lack common principles.

A typical paper studies modeling language specifications, and mechanisms of languages integration such as annotations, transformations, and traceability links, for NFP evaluation of final software product NFPs. Additionally, a paper also studies integration of languages for software development and NFP estimation in the process of software engineering and maintenance.  In this way, a user of a modeling language optimizes the design with respect to values of different NFPs attributes, at predefined point in software engineering process.

Scope:

The focus is on the integration of NFPs in requirements, assessment and certification in modeling languages and software engineering processes using MDE principles. The special issue focuses on relevant languages for requirements specification, languages for estimation and evaluation of non-functional properties, and integration of estimation, evaluation, and certification in the software engineering process.

The topics include, but are not restricted to:

- Requirements modeling languages and non-functional properties

- Early aspects for non-functional properties

- Traceability of non-functional requirements in modeling languages

- Estimation and evaluation of non-functional properties in the software engineering process using different techniques (analytical modeling, simulations and measurements)

- Integration of certification in requirements engineering

- Integration of legal certification in software engineering processes

- using MDE principles

  - Integration of legal policies in requirements engineering and Domain-specific languages for software design

  - Integration of various estimation and evaluation techniques and certification processes.

- Certification, estimation and evaluation of non-functional properties in different system kinds (Information systems, embedded systems, automotive systems, operating systems, Service Oriented Systems, Health-care systems)

- Integration of safety analyses in a model-driven engineering approach
