I am a Ph. D. student in the School of Computing, Dublin City University, working on the 3.5Net project under the supervision of Dr. Stephen Blott. Our research group consists of myself and Caroline Sheedy. My area of interest is anonymous networks, particularly the modelling and simulation of such networks. Caroline is examining the higher level of Identity Management, which requires an anonymous network layer. More details of my research are presented below.
I graduated from Computer Applications in DCU at the end of 2003. I then worked as an intern for a DCU startup company that specialised in Identity Based Encryption, Noretech. When the internship finished, I enterered into the Security & Forensic Computing Masters in DCU. I graduated from the masters at the end of 2004. Having a solid grounding in computer security & being interested in research in the area, I took up a Ph. D. under the supervision of Dr Stephen Blott

As stated above, my interests lie in the modelling and simulation of anonymous networks. The current state of the art in anonymous networks is Tor, the second generation onion router project. There are a number of outstanding questions as regards Tor concerning the level of anonymity it can offer in certain situations. I am hoping to resolve some of these questions with accurate simulations.
My interest in modelling and simulation arises from an internship spent in Ericsson R&D, Ireland. During my time in Ericsson, I was involved with the Network Management Research Center. Work in the NMRC involved analysing current Ericsson management networks and designing more scalable networks. These improved networks will be needed to handle the explosion of network elements as a result of new standards such as 3G, Super 3G, Wlan etc.
