"ne" is like "the" in English.

"tiltik" is black" (note: many colour words end in "tik") "sala" is trousers.

ne tultik tunalThe sun is yellow
"tultik" is "yellow". "tunal" means "sun" (remember: Yeheyk tunal)

ne lala papalutThe butterfly is orange
"lala" is orange, and "papalut" is "butterfly".

"xuxultik" is "blue" and "wilkal" is "sky".

ne xuxukna zakatThe grass is green
"xuxukna" is green and "zakat" is grass.

In El Salvador, the word "zakate" is the word used for "grass" (taken from the Nawat word).

"tutut" means bird

"ciltote" is the name of a beautiful red/orange bird in El Salvador.

"istak" is white and "ickat" is cotton.

The placename "Suchitoto" comes from "xucit" and "tutut" so it means place of flowers and birds. (It's one of the nicest towns in El Salvador).

"cikitik" comes from the Spanish "chiquita" meaning small.

Nawat forms plurals by repeating the first syllable twice at the start of the word and added the "h" sound.

"xucit" is flower, so "xuhxucit" is flowers. The other words follow the same pattern. Listen carefully the to audio part to hear the "h" sound.

tikpia puhpuyuh tik mukalDo you have chickens at home
"puhpuyuh" is the plural of "puyuh" which means chicken. "kal" is home, so "mukal" is your home.

"kuhkuyamet" is the plural of "kuyamet" which means pig.
