This module will have multiple assessments worth a total of 25% of the module marks. Details of assessments work will be given during lectures and also on this website.

Assessment 1 - Software process lifecycle selection

  • Start date: Thursday 12th October
  • Submission date: Thursday 20th October 18.00 hours (Moodle enforces strict time deadlines)
  • Marks: 5% Project details:
  • Group (2 persons) SDLC exericse based on in-class handout.
  • Submission: Via Moodle
  • Size: Submission limited to 500 words.
  • Purpose of exercise: To demonstrate the ability to select an appropriate software process model for a given software development environment. (company names and scenarios are completely ficticious)
  • Mandatory Inclusions: (failure to included mandatory information may result in a 0% grade)
    • 1. Be certain to identify your student names and IDs on your submission
    • 2. Be certain to include the ficticious company name in your submission
  • Expected content of submission:
    • 1. Start by identifying what you believe to be the dominant environmental characteristics.
    • 2. Propose a suitable software process model, clearly outlining the principal reasons (in rank order of importance) for proposing this model.
    • 3. Briefly discuss if you feel that an alternative model (to the one you have already proposed) could also be adopted. If you believe that an alternative model could be used then clearly identify the alternative model. Clearly identify your reasoning.

On deadlines:

Any project which is not received by the deadline will automatically receive a mark of zero (FAIL). There will be no exceptions to this.

If you have a specific reason (e.g., illness) for not submitting you may write to the Programme Board explaining the situation and enclosing appropriate documentation (e.g., a doctor's certificate). This can be done by submitting a letter to the Faculty Office. Under such circumstances you will still be awarded a mark of zero (FAIL), but your case will be discussed by the Programme Board.

ALL projects must contain the following statement on the top page 1:

Any assistance received by way of borrowing from the work of others has been cited and acknowledged within the work. I make this declaration in the knowledge that a breach of the rules pertaining to project submission may carry serious consequences.
