- Novel Mobile Interface to the DCU Machine Translation (MT) system (conact: Yanjun Ma yma@computing...)
An MT system is a package of software that can automatically translate a sentence in one language into another. The DCU MT system is a world leading MT system using a similar technology as Google Translate. Despite the high quality, some translations may need further post-editing by human translators in order to achieve publishable quality.
The aim of the project is to build a mobile interface to the MT system. With the interface, you can input a sentence or a paragraph in a language and have it translated into a desired language. The interface also offers the functionality for human to post-edit the MT translations.
The mobile operating platforms under consideration include iOS for iPhone and iPad or the Google Android. The development will be done on the emulators of these mobile devices. The main technology involved here includes HTML5 and javascripts using libraries such as jQuery and jQTouch. The API to the MT system will be provided.
- Summarizing web pages for mobile devices (conact: Johannes Leveling jleveling@computing...)
Web search for mobile devices such as cell phones requires adaptation of results to the device. This project aims at producing a web search interface for mobile devices, which supports producing summaries of web pages as results. The web search interface will expect a query (two or three keywords) as input and produces a list of web page summaries as output. The Google Search API can be used to implement web search.
The main focus of this project lies in automatically producing document summaries of web pages which can be shown on mobile devices.
The mobile operating platforms under consideration include iOS for iPhone and iPad or the Google Android. The development will be done on the emulators of these mobile devices.
