DCU at CoderDojo's Coolest Projects Awards 2015


On Saturday 13th June, Dublin's RDS hosted Coolest Projects 2015. 500 projects from around Europe were showcased by girls and boys aged between 7 and 17. This year DCU sponsored the special award for Enterprise which was won by Conor Begley (Dundalk CoderDojo) for Quickcon.

The School of Computing had a number of staff involved in the event with Rory O Connor, Martin O'Connor and John McKenna working the DCU stand. In addition, Mark Roantree, Brian Stone and Jennifer Foster were project judges.

DCU was also represented by Laura Browne who presented a talk at the event. Laura is a final year student in DCU studying computer applications. She is a Mentor with the DCU Intergenerational Learning Program, and teaches over 55s computer and technology skills. Laura recently won the Intel Galileo 3rd level competition with her IoT project, 'PowerScout' energy monitoring system.

Coolest Projects was co-founded by Noel King in 2012 to showcase the talent emerging from Dojos around Europe. The event was hosted in DCU in 2013 and 2014 is now in its 4th year with DCU's Mark Roantree a member of the organising committee.

CoderDodo-DCU meets every Saturday with 3 classes for young coders with different levels of ability.
