Course Structure

Programme Structure and Content

The programme is delivered on a full-time basis over 12 months, commencing in late September with a team-building exercise. Over the first two semesters, students on both streams follow a common core curriculum and also take a number of modules particular to their stream (with each module carrying a weighting of either 5 credits for the shared or business stream subjects and 7.5 credits for the technical stream subjects). Students on the Business stream take modules in advanced business topics, as well as some fundamental modules in computing. Simultaneously, students on the Technical stream take advanced computing modules and some introductory modules in business topics.

The majority of modules are assessed by a combination of written exams and continuous assessment, and the schedule of assessments will be available online. Examinations, where relevant, take place in mid-January for Semester 1 subjects and in mid-May for Semester 2 subjects. In the final semester, from mid May to August, students undertake a team "practicum" (or significant entrepreneurial or innovative e-commerce project), worth 20 credits to each student, giving an overall 90 credits for the programme.

The structure of the programme is represented in the table below, with links to the fuller module descriptions available on the DCU Intranet only.
