Hi, I am Alessandra (♀) and this is my academic website.
I am a Lecturer in the School of Computing and a Senior Research Fellow at the INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics at Dublin City University. I originally moved to Ireland to join the Digital Enterprise Research Insitute (DERI) at NUI Galway, which then became part of the SFI funded INSIGHT Centre for Data Analytics.
My main expertise and general research interest is in exploring and exploiting synergies and complementarities between symbolic, probabilistic and neural artificial intelligence formalisms and tools for complex reasoning. In the last few years I have been focusing on Stream Reasoning (with special attention to scalability and expressivity), Semantic Query Processing (including data quality and event stream processing on RDF data), Semantic Sensor Networks and probabilistic logic inference, with applications in the areas of smart cities and enterprise communication systems.
I am active in the scientific community as PC member of over 40 conferences including AAAI, ISWC and WWW, and a number of journals in related research areas, including the Journal of Web Semantics (JWS), IEEE Intelligent Systems (IEEE IS), Theory and Practice of Logic Programming (TPLP). I am particularly interested in activities that foster exchange of ideas and bottom-up agreement on how to represent and process knowledge on the Web, which led me to be involved in emerging Community Groups within the W3C such as the RDF Stream Processing (RSP) group.
I hold an MSC (2002) and a PhD (2006) in Computer Science from the University of Milan, Italy.
